Jonas Goins
Ground Control Jiu-Jitsu is owned and operated by Jonas Goins who is a black belt under Professor Matt Vernon (Primate) who is in turn under Jean Jacques Machado black belt Profesor Christian Derr (Clinch).
Jonas brings his extensive competition history and passionate teaching style to provide a fun yet challenging experience. Whether you are brand new or come with previous martial arts experience, you will be given the tools you need to set and achieve your goals both on and off the Jiu-Jitsu mats.
Jonas' Jiu-Jitsu practice began in October of 2012 when he took his kids to a class, invited by a friend, and ended up stepping on the mat in the adults class. From that moment, he was hooked. Shortly after, he participated in his first tournament and won the matches. His second tournament was two months later and he's been an avid competitor ever since. He's a sponsored team member for the American Grappling Federation and has been a part of over 100 matches.
In 2014, he started training in MMA and Muay Thai and began competing in MMA after a few months. His Ammy record is 4-1-0 in MMA and he's fought for organizations including Combat! in Muay Thai and kickboxing. His last fight was in 2017 where he won a local Ammy 205 belt - according to Tapology, he was the #1 Ammy 205'er in the state and top 5 in the region.
After his last competitive fight, he started training under Matt Vernon at Primate in Tulsa and began coaching the morning classes. He's still involved in coaching, teaching, and competing when he can.
